Wisley

A comment by Matron on yesterday's post reminded me that I've forgotten to post about my visit to Wisley a fortnight ago. I took these photos of the plans for their 3x3 beds this year.
You'll see that they have started another bed (alongside the first one) for Oriental vegetables.
I might have a go at this in '09 (beds are all planned out for '08) but I'll watch their efforts this year with interest first.

Smaller beds are an interesting idea. Presumably they would stop you planting too much of the same thing.

Must visit Wisley myself later in the season and see how it's doing.
I'm wondering how they organise the crop rotation.

If you look back at my post of Sept 11th last year you'll se what they did in 2007. Looks to me like they rotate it properly.

Thanks, I had a look at your earlier post. Also popped over to the RHS website & their "online community".
The blog by Jim Gardiner (April 2nd 2008) has some pics which show the mini gardens empty but marked out. Puts the size in perspective! Ideal for a small veg patch.

Isn't it amazing what you can really do in such a small space with a little planning ahead! Hey I just had a thought.. there seem to be lots and lots of us that visit Wisley from time to time. Maybe we should all pick a day in the future and meet in the veggie garden, wearing a vegetable in our buttonhole !!!

What a good idea! Trouble is I always go on my way to Kent to visit my Mum and to pick up work for my husband. If it coincided with one of those....usually a Monday morning, that'd be very good!

Oh great plans - for raised beds - I am getting some this year - so may have a go at that too next year.
