Does anyone recognise this problem with my strawberries? The fruits themselves grow little green scales all over them as in the one on the right. Inside is strawberry flesh, but it has this "hairy" leaf jacket. I pulled most of them off weeks ago but seem to have left this one.
The one on the left shows a little of the problem near the stalk.
I have scoured the net for info on this and have found nothing.

How strange...I can only think it's some sort of fasciation (maybe triggered by the strange weather conditions) and the strawberry doesn't know whether to become a fruit or leaves.
I've never seen that before, I'll keep a look out and see what I can find out for you. Can I post the photo at a forum, someone there may know?
Please do Leonie! Thanks....!
I posted your question at two forums and an answer has been posted at one. Here is the link for you to read what was said:

Hope that answers the question. I've never seen it before so was interested to know what might be the cause.
Thanks Leonie. I 've read it and it is interesting. Never ever having used glyphosphate weedkiller I am at a loss to know what to say. The bed they are in has old scaffold boards as the edging. Perhaps they have something nasty in them. Or perhaps before I had them they came into contact with it. It happened to the same plants last year too.
Thanks again for getting the info....
You're welcome lilymarlene :-)
Those are the weirdest looking strawberries I've ever seen. Sure they aren't an alien invasion? :)
